St Stephens Green, the hotels namesake, is the neighboring 27-acre park that began long ago as communal livestock grazing land. In 1663, Dublins City Council blocked public access to the property and sold off some of its expanse. Luckily for the city and its future residents, Sir Arthur Guinness, a Member of Parliament and founder of the worlds thickest beer, proposed a bill that preserved the Green as a public park in 1877.
